Help a newfag

Name: Jimmy Bojangles 2013-02-16 2:01

I bought a laptop from a friend for like 40 bucks. I figured if anything I could flip it for more than I payed. Thing is, it is super slow. Scary slow. And I know about as much about computers as I do the afterlife.
Here's some specs.
Hewlett-Packard
Compaq Presario CQ50 Notebook PC
Amd Sempron SI-40 2.00 GHz
1 GB in ram
32 bit operating system
Is there anything I can do to make it substantially faster? Or is it just a piece of shit? I mean, I've had older computers and it is nowhere near as slow as this. I've ran a virus scan, defragged, managed files, and still nothing to help.

You'd get more responses if you asked in alt.bin.le.monkey.face.lel

This is exactly why message boards are useless. Because their community is useless.

Maybe we'd help the OP if he didn't use the word 'newfag'.

Just format it and put a lightweight distro on it. Or Win Xp as >>9 says

Not sure on the mobo, but if you have some extra RAM cards laying around, put some of those in. Since you're working with Windows 32bit, only put up to 4GB in it as anything else can't be used. Maybe format the drive, do a fresh install of Windows or something, and the extra RAM, you could definitely sell that for more than you paid.

not much you can do besides plugging in more RAM into it then after installing the OS of your choice, make sure to trim your startups.

Boot Windowsinstaler.exe via cmd. If you want to ask how or what that is. Google it.
