hosts for a network?

Name: Anonymous 2013-01-20 19:36

hi hello guise,
in my linux machine I edit the /etc/hosts file so any address I want (say "http://anotherLocalhost/" ) makes a request to my local webserver. How do I do that for a small lan connected with a router? I want the other machines in my network to hit my webserver by going to http://intranet/ without having to edit every computer's hosts file or worrying about new computers entering the network. can the router be configured for that or what?

Setting up a web interface within your internal network is quite easy. Making it public on the internet is NOT wise, but possible, and depends heavily on the type of router you have and its interface. All you have to do is forward the http/ftp/https/etc port on your webserver so that you can access it anywhere.

Take a look through this guide, if you still can't get it then too bad, I'm probably not coming back to this board for another year~
