Hi /comp/, newfag here. So let's talk about cloud computing, what's its status towards becoming reality? Are you americans using it for any reasons, is it popular?

google about it. /comp/ is so slow that you won't get decent conversation with us about cloud computing we all probably here at /comp/ hate anyway since it takes our stuff and makes it a sellable product for companies like Google and Microsoft. They can blackmail and spy on us. However its very handy at some situations like when you listen music and don't want to have all the terabytes of storage at home for your collection.

To some extent we're part of the way there with services such as dropbox. With the laucnh of Chrome OS last week it's getting closer to reality.

Funny you should ask, I'm actually in the process of transferring my documents onto Google's cloud. I had a writing project on it before just for yuks, but today I forgot to bring my laptop to class, but since I still had it on the cloud, wrote the remainder on my phone. I'm all for cloud computing. Privacy be damned!

If you are worried about cloud computing, go get a easy to use encryption program, encrypt your files, then upload them.
its easy for some one like google who has a vast amount of supercomputers and access to all major ISPs to brute force or exploit encrypted files and spy on every incoming and outgoing packet.
Google is recording the internet in 5 different places, the entire thing. considering how far they have gone to further the breach in privacy with the street view feature ware they recorded your wifi signals and took pictures of your house and car. It is not very hard to imagine them recording every cpu cycle to scale back data for the sake of "ads"(and CIA) in say oh 30 years.
