Frequency

I'm just tinkering about with my cable modem (an Ambit), and I've come across a setting that I can't seem to find any useful information about.

"Frequency Scanning Plan"
currently the settings are
Lowest Center Frequency: 93000000
Highest Center Frequency: 858000000
Channel Spacing: 6000000

can anyone shed some light on this? I mean I can kinda gather a vague idea from the name, the range of frequencies the modem will attempt to use. But can I mess with them? is there any possibility of improving my general connection speed / signal strength / signal-to-noise ratio by fiddling with them? if so, which should I mess with? and in what increments? up or down? What would changes be likely to affect (if anything) that I could test/compare to see if it's doing anything beneficial?

Not that I expect this could significantly alter my connection's speed or reliability, but I can't help but tinker with every setting I find (and understand), except I cannot for the life of me find any relevant information about this one. All I've come across via repeated googling are some places where it's basically just mentioned. Not even so much as a "this should be left at it's default" blurb.

The curiosity is driving me nuts.
