memory dump

I was wondering about memory dump. Do you guys know about it ? Cause there is not a lot of informations online.

Is it possible for me to get the access to the values stored in my ram at a time ? Is it possible on all OS ? Are there some memory address that aren't accessible ? What precisely is the point of this operation ?

Why the hell would you do that?

One point of analizing memory dumps would be to see how malware behaves, another point would be to get passwords from im clients.
