I think the Xena and Xorro are ground-breaking and will re-define high-end hobbyist computing... just like the A1000/A500 did in the '80s (compared to the GAY green-on-black monitors of IBM PCs...)

Holy crap, that's an interesting concept if I've ever seen one. It's about as close as using FPGAs for personal computers as we're likely to see for quite some time. I've been thinking of possibly gathering some FPGAs and making my own custom computer, but this would definitely take a LOT of the hassle out of that, while still allowing for some of the major bonuses you'd get from using FPGAs (namely, very fast interaction with events, and parallel execution) while still giving you a fairly normal OS to work with. How much is this going to cost?

I have no idea, but I'm expecting it to be a bump above the original A1000 price (since the hardware today is as relatively revolutionary as the A1000 was in '85)... near $2000-$2500 USD in 2010 cash.  (A1000 = approx. $1300 1985-era USD)

To be honest, I'll save up and pay *anything* for an X1000.
Hell, I'll even take out a loan to get one, since I can already tell it's going to be limited production.

The X1000 is just *that* revolutionary.  I already love it and it's not out yet.
What other desktop system uses high-grade, military-spec, native-64-bit CPU architecture right out of the box?  That's right.  None.

Good point. I dunno if I'd be willing to save up that much, but that's mostly because I have no income right now, and I dunno what my financial situation may look like for the next couple years. But if I somehow came into a large sum of money right around when it came out, I'd certainly have no problem with putting money down for that thing.

Then again, I might just decide to build my own computer anyway. I could easily grab some high end core and a couple FPGAs and go to work making something similar to that anyway.
