Chrome opens up new tabs

Often when I click links to visit websites or open up forum threads, Chrome will open up another tab that leads to sites such as yahoo.com and google.com.

What the hell is up with this and how do I make it stop? This happens in literally all the websites I visit, not tied to anyone in specific.
