Comp recovery

Ok so I have a laptop that doesn't turn on. Or it does turn on but as soon as it starts to boot the OS (Windows Vista home premium) it suddenly turns off. My brother looked at it and said that the OS is fried and need to be reinstalled. I tried making it boot from a disc earlier today and it worked until I plugged an external HD in. As soon as the system recognized it, the computer shut off, and I haven't been able to get it to boot since. :\ I really need to get this computer to work. Is there anything I can do to save it?

Send it in to whoever made your laptop. Or send it into a computer shop. I could tell you what to do but I don't think you are savvy enough to fix this issue. No offence.

I don't have the money for those options.

Fan problem

It's not a fan problem. That's been checked for, and so has a problem with the power connection soldering. Which it also isn't.
