Hi there. I am trying to figure out how to accomplish something, and I haven't been able to find a complete solution that handles everything I need to be able to do. I need to:
1. Keep an entire library of music on an external hard drive.
2a. Sync that entire library with hard drives on two different laptops, in both directions (i.e. new music on the laptop goes to the hard drive, new music on the hard drive (that was put there by the other laptop) goes onto the laptop).
2b. Optionally, only have to store a portion of music on either laptop but still be able to keep the entire library in order on iTunes for iPod synchronization.
3. Have this whole process play nice with iTunes.
My girlfriend and I want to do this to combine our music collections in one place (the external drive), and since we both have iPods, we need it to play nice with iTunes in the whole process.
I know how to keep two folders synchronized between computers and external media. The problem with this whole thing comes from trying to figure out how to make it play nice with iTunes and our iPods.
Does anyone have any suggestions for solutions?
Note: We do not have a network set up for accomplishing any of this--the entire process must be done with USB.
