LCD monitor isn't being reconized.

I'm working on a temporary computer that is VGA only, the only problem is the monitor for my original computer is an LCD. I used a DVI female to VGA male adapter to hook an LCD monitor to the temporary computer, but while the monitor realized that there was a connection, it said that there was no data signal to receive. As stupid as this may sound do I need to install a new graphics card with a DVI port, or would installing the drivers for the monitor fix things.

Also, if it's because I need a new graphics card put in it (as I suppose it most likely is), then what use is a DVI female to a VGA male adapter?

Did some work, and yes, the answer was simple. Turns out that there was a VGA connector as well as a DVI connector to the LCD I used. I have no idea how I missed it, but once I ordered a VGA cable, I was able to use the other computer just like that.
