Well if money isn't an option...but if your looking for redundancy and speed go with at least 4 SCSI HDDs with a controller. Configure a raid-10 (striping with parity and mirroring) configuration. Its a little slower than raid 5, but you can lose 2 disks IIRC and still rebuild your data. Its performance is proportional to the number of drives so add a bunch and get fast speeds. Expect to spend thousands of dollars on this. Also SCSI HDDs tend to have a lot longer mean time between failure.
Or just go get 2 terabyte hdds and put them in raid 2. Put them on different channels or buy a controller so if one corrupts it doesn't fuck your data. Also invest in a UPS with shutdown software. Remember if your surge protector takes a hit...it no longer surge protects. So replace it as soon as it goes bad.
