My purpose is the following.
I want learn how to install WinXP from a USB --WITHOUT-- using PeToUSB or BartPe and similar.
I have installed Win7 from usb, simple by formatting as fat, marking partition as active, and with BOOTSECT.EXE from the win7 iso image itself, writing the mbr code for BootMgr.
But, in winXp the bootable cd does not uses ntdl nor bootmgr, instead includes the BOOTFONT.BIN file and a [BOOT] folder, so i dont know how to use it.
-I know the format must be FAT with LBA enabled.... I achieve this by formatting with the HP USB Format Tool or Paragon Partition Manager. Right?
-I know that NTDLR mbr code looks for ntdlr file in root. Bootmgr MBR for bootmgr file in root. But, which MBR looks for BOOTFONT.BIN and [BOOT]?
at this point, when booting from my USB stick, i get REMOVE DISKS AND PRESS ANY KEY TO REBOOT.
any suggestions? Thanx!
