Windows 7 BSOD during install

Name: Anonymous 2009-05-29 16:08

I keep getting a BSOD and a failed install trying to install Windows 7. In the past, similar problems have also occurred with all versions of Windows Vista beyond Beta 2, and every recent Linux distro I've ever tried. It occurs in both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and I never have found a way around it. It does not occur with Windows XP install.

The problem occurs in Windows 7 install shortly after the install adjusts the resolution to match that of my monitor. This is during the final listed stage of the install process, after the first reboot. The screen goes black, a BSOD quickly pops up (and then disappears too fast for me to read the stop code), and the computer restarts then reports that the install has failed and needs to be restarted.

I have tried running the diagnostic in the repair option during the setup process, which reports that there are no problems and that Windows booted successfully.

I already eliminated a bad burn as the cause. And the fact that this has happened across several OSes and several discs seems to rule out it simply being a bad ISO. I have flashed the BIOS on my motherboard. I have tried removing all but 1GB of RAM (one stick). I have tried disconnecting all but the essential hardware. I have tried changing between which of my two video cards I use. I have reset the BIOS to default settings both before and after the flashing. I fiddled with all sorts of BIOS controls as per suggestions on various forums (disable Cool & Quiet, etc). I even tried connecting a CRT monitor via VGA instead of my flat panel via DVI (seems like it wouldn't matter, but two separate posts I found on the matter said that solved it for them). I still get the exact same BSOD at the exact same part of the install process every single time.

I'm completely stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

System components:
DFI LanParty nForce4 SLI-DR
eVGA GeForce 7800GT 512MB (have two, only have 1 connected for the install)
4GB Corsair XMS DDR-400
Seagate 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3Gb/s (this is the drive I'm using for the install. All other HDs are disconnected).
Dell 2005FPW screen
