Free vector drawing program?

I thought maybe some artists could give me some suggestions. My dad wants me to design a logo, but since it's not my profession, Illustrator wouldn't be worth buying. I have it done in Photoshop, but I'd like to make a scalable vectorized version.

Crud, the cursor hangs when using Graphire 4 in Inkscape. Is that a known issue for tablets, or is it just my computer?
