Has Google become more stupid lately?

Google keeps trying to be helpful with suggestions, alternate spellings and word tense.  You'd think using quotes would give an exact match, but it still returns spelling and grammar variations.  Google used to return just what I was looking for, not suggest things like it was Ask Jeeves.

google seems to be magically cross referencing all my previous searches with the one i'm performing in that very moment
it's not useful to get junk domains with references to christmas.jpg with pthread_mutex_unlock
