Automatic backup software for an XP server?

Name: Anonymous 2008-12-18 20:40

Ok, so I have an XP Pro server running which is mostly just a file server. I'd like to set up an automatic, incremental backup from this computer to a local network hard drive. Right now the backup would be approximately 130 GB, but would probably never exceed 500 GB during the lifetime of this computer (it's taken years to get this much). I'm looking for some stable, small, free software that can do this. I'd prefer not to have to buy it but if you can recommend something really good then I'd be willing. The important thing for me is that it uses little to no resources, and can confidently back up my files, preferably in a non-proprietary format. Incremental is important as I can't have it copying 130+ gigs every night. Thanks for any input.

Look into using rsync for Windows.  You'll probably need to install cygwin to get it running, but rsync does a good job at only copying files that have changed.  There are also a bunch of GUI frontends for it out there.

Just use the goddamn Windows backup tool and schedule it to run during the night.
