Help building a computer

Alright, I'm planning on building myself a new computer, but I have little to no prior hardware knowledge, so I'd very much appreciate it if you would answer a few questions.

First, what sort of sound card should I purchase, or is one required at all? I've seen no mention of them, and thought they may be integrated into the processor or motherboard or something.
