halp plz screen flashing on and off

So whenever I try to play a video the whole screen goes blank for a couple of seconds, then comes back, then goes, repeat until I close the program. I've tried several formats and players and they're all the same. It also sometimes happens once for no reason at all. It started the same day I installed a ton of windows updates which I'd neglected for a month or so, so I guess one of those is doing it, but I didn't read the names and I really have no idea.
