help!

Today i decided i would install windows on my separate hard drive but when i ran the installer during boot up i got errors saying disk is not found(XP) or i/o error (Vista) so i thought it might be my dvd-rom so i tried to install linux and it worked, but why won't it install from a windows disk i've tried it with 4 different cd/dvds and the same happens. Any ideas?
