Proxies

/g/ I've only ever really used proxies by using the basic proxy ability that is usually built into the browser, However i was wondering if there was any significant advantages to using any of the dozens of firefox proxy addons.

Also what exactly is tor. I know it's an extremely anonymous system of communication, but how does it work exactly.

And finally are there any list of good proxies, most of the ones i find are slow.

Just wanted to to know your opinions and advice you have on the issue.
