Quick Question..

Sup /comp/... I am going to be putting out an album soon with .mp3s and .jpgs in it. So my question is; can I put the folder of all of the .mp3s and .jpgs into a (windows) compressed zipped folder and then upload it to my site and whomever downloads it can easily open it without having to have download winrar or winzip or anything along those lines?

Thanks guys.

you need opera if you want to upload files to a site because it uses less RAM and is more stable so the files will be uploaded quickly and efficiently

www.opera.com

Yeah you can probably get away with it, but to make sure your computer isnt using other archiving programs you need to delete your system32 folder and its contents otherwise the computer will mark the files as being associated with other archiving software like winrar so other people downloading it will also need winrar etc

I'm pretty sure "Delete your system32 folder" was a joke.. but I think I know what you're getting at... should I uninstall Winrar and WInzip first?

Hello.. OP here. If you'd be so kind enough as to test this "zipped" folder I made after unistalling winzip and winrar from my computer I would greatly appreciate it. Here's the link > http://www.sendspace.com/file/0lkv3b

Thank you.

Anything can open a .zip file, everything else such as .rar and .7z is for the programs.

So say I just bought a new computer with Windows XP on it... I hit Internet Explorer for the first time.. I clicked the above ^ download link for the .zip file... when it is done downloading.. I could easily extract the files and be on my way?

Does the same go with the other popular OS'es? Vistaids? Ubuntu? OS X? BSD?

- and yes, I used "internet explorer" for an example to pronounce the fact that no 3rd party programs where installed in this process.. I'm not a n00b.. I'm just using a n00by scenario -

Yes, I would also note that as long as you have Winrar, Winzip is unnecessary.

Nope you would need to use Internet Explorer to go to the site www.opera.com and download the Opera Browser as it uses less system resources and is stable enough to actually download your zipped file, unlike other shitty free open source browsers.

Nope you would need to use Internet Explorer to go to the site www.getfirefox.com and download the Mozilla Firefox Browser as it uses less system resources and is stable enough to actually download your zipped file, unlike other shitty free closed source browsers.

what is the point of winrar and winzip in the first place?

Nope you would need to use Internet Explorer to go to the site www.dillo.org and download the Dillo Browser as it uses less system resources and is stable enough to actually download your zipped file, unlike other shitty free non-discontinued browsers.
