Retrieving lost firefox bookmarks

I directly switched off my computer, didn't shut it down the way  it was supposed to be shut down. Now my firefox bookmarks are all gone. How do I retrieve them back? I'm an idiot on these kinds of things, so please tell me how to do so as simply as possible, thanks.  

Look in your profile directory for bookmarks.html or bookmarks.bak. There should also be a subdirectory named bookmarkbackups.
