I have a fairly new passively cooled GeForce 8600 GT. The problem is, whenever some application uses it for more than just drawing a window, I hear some kind of hissing noise from the card. It can be watching a video, playing a game or just moving a window around, that sort of stuff.
The card is not overclocked and it doesn't get that hot (I hope), with normal desktop work it's at 48°-50°C. I didn't notice any stability issues or graphics errors so far either.
My whole computer is pretty silent, so I guess if the card had a fan, I probably wouldn't notice the noise. But I'm concerned, is it a sign of something that would impair the life time of my card? Is there a way to get rid of it or is it caused by how the card is constructed (ie cheap capacitors or something) and I have to live with it?
