Video skipping

Whenever I try to play a video and a game at the same time, I get this insipid little skip every couple of seconds in the video.

I know my computer is quite capable of doing both at once, and there must be some priority settings I need to mess with since it is a new computer.

Has anyone had this problem before?  It happens with VLC, WMP, and CCCP.  This never happened on my old computer.

Also it does this when Steam is open and not playing a game.  Both are running off separate drives.  I have tried it from different drives, too, with the same result.

Did you try defragmenting your hard drive? I had a similar problem, and this solved it.

It turned out to be that ffdshow was not functioning properly ... now it works just fine in Windows Media Player.  So yeah, pretty much nigger horse plague.
