I AM A LINUX BADASS

Name: linux-badass 2008-01-08 23:20

I have an AGP card in my computer that acts as a server/router/firewall.  Shitty Nvidia Geforce4 MX 420 64MB.  Forced to have this as mobo has no onboard video and won't boot without a graphics card.

But I managed to use the RAM in the AGP card as a RAM disk.  Works very nicely!  I rule.

I know you can use video card RAM as general purpose storage but that still doesn't change the fact that video card RAM is less reliable than system RAM. A glitch in video RAM information results in a weird pixel (or set of pixels) on the screen. A glitch in system RAM results in a unstable system. Because of this characteristic, manufacturers often use less reliable (but otherwise usable) RAM on cards that would be normally be scrapped if it was system RAM.e
