Harddisk about to die =(

Name: Anonymous 2008-01-07 5:08

Hi all,
got a big problem, one of my hdds is about to die. Why I know? Well it is part of a Raid 0 and when I booted my PC 5 days ago it said "Error Occured (0)" for one of the two. Well, I did some research on the web, and found out that the drive won't make it much longer.
Though there are some differences in my case. First of all its a relative new one, I would say like 4 or 5 months old, so I don't really understand why it happened, it is also cooled very well. Another difference to the other cases is, my PC didn't crash because of the hdd yet, I can boot and work normally, its just this message so far, and sometimes some weired sounds, but they aren't loud and only occasionally.

OK, now about my question. Since it seems that I still can read everything on it, is it possible to buy another hdd (same company/size of cause) and make an exact copy of it, so that I can keep my Raid as it is and can keep working on my PC while I sent my broken hdd to repair? If it is possible, how do I do that? A problem I thought about with an exact copy, would the error occur on booting again with the copy because I also copied some errors and the raid wouldn't be sync again maybe?

So yeah, thats about it. Would be awesome if anyone could help me with that. Thx alot.

Thx for the reply! But could you plz explain what you just said, a little more detailed?
What hdd I would need for that? A 640GB one? At least that is what it would take to mirror everything. I thought it takes 4 hdds of the same kind for Raid5. Or is making a Raid5 with only 3 hdds the thing I asked in the first place? And about the console synthax, is that supposed to work with a Linux bash?
