Hey guys,

I have two 500GB Seagates running in raid 0 with a Jmicron fakeraid chip. While playing back video or music, there are occasional hitches in the playback occur accompanied by a little tick/click coming from the hard disks. I don't understand why this is happening since both the playback software (VLC or Foobar2k) and the hard disk itsself should be buffered. What's going on? Does the fakeraid software just really suck?

Yes. Never ever use software RAID.

LOL?  It's hardware RAID you should never use.  As you might not have noticed, the original poster is in fact having problems with hardware RAID.

Then why is it called fakeraid?

The software RAID >>2 is refering to is actually a software RAID controller, which is what the OP is having problems with.

It should go without saying that a full software RAID (with the drives being partitions of one physical disk) is always a bad idea if you can afford better, and a software RAID controller is inferior to a hardware one.

Well that's kind of what I meant with >>2.

Should have made myself clearer... if you're serious about RAID, get a hardware controller card. 3ware or LSI are a good start.
