Hard Drive Diagnostics

I dropped a 2.5" Iomega external hard drive about half a meter.  It has a USB interface, and contains 3 partitions, the last one is a 90GiB NTFS partition.  Some of the files are corrupted to the extent that XP can't delete them, others can be copied without problems.  Scandisk takes a long time to get about 1/4 into phase 2, then exits saying the disk check can't be completed.  Some file record segments are unreadable.  Booting with Hiren's BootCD 8.9, I ran Spinrite, but it will take 500+ hours to complete a level 3 scan.  Norton Disk Doctor crashes while loading.
Currently, I think I will copy what I can with Ddrescue, and get whatever is lost somewhere else.

I would like to use Iomegaware to check on the physical "health" of the drive, but it isn't recognized as an Iomega drive (ie. when right-clicking and choosing Properties, there is no Iomega tab, and Iomegaware has no other interface.
At the moment I cannot reformat the drive to see whether Iomegaware will recognize it.  Any ideas as to why it isn't being recognized, or a suggestion for another tool that can test the drive's physical "health"?

I've got a real OS, but I can't force my friends to run it, and I don't have a high speed internet connection.  So I need to use NTFS to get files from them - many don't want you to install "funny" apps to write to EXT2/3.  The other two partitions are a swap file and EXT3.

Ddrescue is a GNU app.  I doubt that it runs on Windows.

Also, I would be impressed if you could point me to a *nix-based app that does what Iomegaware does, on my Iomega disk.  I doubt that you could.

The disk life status.

NOTE: If Disk Life indicates "Marginal," the disk is approaching the end of its prime. In this case, move the data to a new disk and use the old one for less active service, such as archiving.

The format life of the disk.

NOTE: If Format Life indicates "Long Format Recommended," it does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with the disk. Usually flagged sectors have just exceeded a reasonable level. However, remember to move the data before formatting.
