Timestamped Folders

Name: Anonymous 2007-11-16 7:58

Does anyone know where to find a small program, or know how to make a batch file- that moves files into folders based on the date modified attribute? eg:

info1.txt date modified 20/01/07
info2.txt date modified 22/02/07

Folders 20-01-07 and 22-02-07 are created.

File info1.txt is moved to folder 20-01-07
File info2.txt is moved to folder 22-02-07

It seemed so simple I thought it'd be easy to find anything that did that, but I've been searching for a long while now.

I don't know how to get a file's 'date modified' attribute so I can put it in a variable.

XCOPY /?

You have to supply the date with XCOPY; rather have the date returned when you query it.

Well I'm sorry Glorious Anonymous. My requesting here my certainly means I must be a 13 year old internet badass who's only experience with using google is searching for BOOBS. Please, enlighten me on how YOU would use google to search for this in a way I clearly haven't.
This means any search result that isn't FoldMonkey or dumb tutorials on how to use Windows Explorer.

How to get free stuff from the internet, like Amazon gift certificates and shit:

Step 1: Install Firefox autoreloader: http://tinyurl.com/32wqmn

Step 2: Go to this site: http://tinyurl.com/ynkurk
and sign up. Make sure to uncheck the box that lets them send you email offers and garbage.

Step 3: Go to the search page at that site and input any search. (internet hate machine, etc.)

Step 4: Set Firefox to autoreload the page every 5 seconds.

Step 5: ?????

Step 6: Profit! I won a $5 gift certificate in the first 15 minutes. It might take longer, but if you just set it up and leave it every day, you get tons of free shit. (Make sure to check your "My Prizes" page periodically)

Hey. I like programming as much as the next guy. But I would much prefer to just be able to do what I want.

It just boggles the mind that there a programs like
http://dis.4chan.org/read/comp/1195200542/1-40 and
http://www.niftyprograms.com/dirutils.htm that come so close,
but nothing that does what I want.

You could've written it yourself twenty times over in the time it took you to google that.

No. Maybe YOU could have written it twenty times over. In fact, why don't you give a clue how you would do that.

I use the Lunix, so, as per >>3, a one-liner in bash.
Bash has been ported to Windows, or you could use Windows PowerShell, if you're that kind of person and figure that out. There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you get past that, you'll have a much more powerful way of dealing with your OS than Explorer.

<newbie zealot hoping to convert people to linux>

Why, isn't that cute...

That's nice. I'm not trying to convert anyone. If I were, I wouldn't have mentioned PowerShell, I don't think.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it when I have time.
