Downloading through wireless routers

Name: Failbot 2007-11-05 16:03

My router seems quite awkward when I try to download through it. I tried port forwarding by following instructions, but I guess I'm useless enough that I don't understand it one bit. And now it keeps disconnecting when I run torrents through it. I don't particularly care much for downloading stuff through torrents as I'm not fussed about films or TV, and I have plenty of music, but I occasionally may want more.

What router is it?

A number of shitty routers have trouble with the load of connections that are open with torrents or other p2p systems. Try reducing the maximum number of connections in your torrent client.

Also deactivate Upnp both in your router and the torrent client. You can reactivate it later if you really want, but for now just try to get it to work.

Describe you network setup (router's IP and your client's IP, both internal of course) and describe exactly what you did to set up the port forwarding. Oh, and use a high non-standard port for torrents. Anything in the 30000-60000 range should do. Just check first, that your particular port isn't used by another common protocol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_TCP_and_UDP_port_numbers
