Ok everyone, I'm thinking of switching to linux because I've heard great things about it, so I was wondering which linux based os I should go for. I'm just looking for one that I can use the internet on, since I have my games on another installation of xp. Basically I want to run live messenger, utorrent and limewire or something similar. Also will I need to get any virus protection, since I download some risky stuff.

Linux is good to get massive amounts of computing work done..say like setting up complex and SECURE servers and work environments.
Windows is good for pretty much leisurely pleasure stuffs.
I use both..and to be honest, I enjoy the complete power I have over my system in linux (debian for the win) but I enjoy the ease of use when it comes to windows. Seriuosly...put game CD in and you can get a game.
I cant get starcraft to run right in WINE. it runs at like 10FPS with no sound and shitty resolution.
It is because of the horrible mess with games that Linux will never overtake the casual use..even with distros like Ubuntu (god bless them they're trying)
I mean for fucks sake...even apple is starting to catch on and grab games.
