Wireless on college networking

I got this odd wireless networking problem on a college network.
To connect to it wirelessly you need to authenticate your computer with an account. But no matter what I do, the authentication page will not show up.
I've tried in both FF and IE, tried a completely new install of FF, clearing all the browser cache, etc.
And it still doesn't work.
It's an HP laptop with a Broadcom 54g wireless card

Any ideas?

Have you connected to the wireless and if so are packets being sent when you attempt to connect? Also set your internet settings to automatically detect network settings.
