Ultralite Linux Distro?

Name: Anonymous 2007-08-21 14:45 ID:cwQm8yC1

Dear nurds,

Asus will (maybe even soon) release a 200 dollar laptop. The front end is a custom Linux page akin to Microsoft Bob. Made for retards and children. It makes web pages go, and some light office apps, and THATS IT.

The OS is teensy because the whole damn thing runs off of a flash drive, and between those two factors its pretty much instant-on.

For those of you familiar with it, is there a turnkey linux distro that has a grandma-friendly front end for getting a cheap old box into the hands of some retardeds?

Your best bets will be either DSL or Xubuntu.
DSL's probably not as "granny friendly" as Xubuntu, but it is very very light on system resources.

If you can find a decent USB key, use a LiveCD, or have enough room on its flash drive, i'd look into Xubuntu, which is perfect for low spec machines due to its simplicity and Xfce environment. I have an old Vaio Laptop with 128MB of PC66 RAM in it... and it runs Xubuntu fine.

But as i don't know much about this laptop, i'm obviously unaware if it would be able to run it... The specs page is less than helpful...
