Windows not booting up...

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-22 23:24 ID:BJ8ftF/b

So my HD died back in april, and I had to reformat windoez and everything. I managed to retrieve some of my files, but not many. I mention this, because I'm not sure if it's related or not, but figure it might be.

Anywho, lately, sometimes when booting up my computer, it doesn't load windows. When it works, it'll show the diagnostics screen, a black screen with a blinking underscore, then just a blank screen for about 1 second, then finally going to the windows XP loading bar thing. When it doesn't work, it shows the diagnostics, then the blinking underscore, then it stops at the black screen that usually only takes a second. Constant rebooting doesn't seem to help, but when I go into my bios, and make the primary slave scan for my hard drive, then exit, windows loads (at least, that seems to be the case.)

I'm running a scan of my c:/ right now, to see if it has any bad sectors or not, but I really have no idea what's wrong with it. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, right, virus scans and spyware scans indicate no spyware or viruses.
