external harddrive

Yesterday it was working fine, but today when I turned on my external harddrive, it starts up, but it doesn't get read by my system. I've tried it in various USB ports, but it just sits there idle. The power is in correctly, the USB cable is in correctly, and I can't think of whats wrong. Anyone got any ideas?

test it out by plugging it into a different computer.  If it doesn't work take it apart and swap a different HD into it to see if it's the enclosure.  If the enclosure works w/ a different HD in it, use the original HD inside the enclosure hooked directly into your PC.

Your external enclosure took a shit.  These things love to stop working for absolutely no apparent reason.

Simple solution: take the hard drive out of it, and buy a new enclosure.  They're cheap (around 30$ US)
