Laptop Video Upgrade

Name: Anonymous 2007-07-06 18:42 ID:Zqgfk+Q5

Is there any feasible way to upgrade the video card on a laptop, or do we not have that technology yet?

I ask because 64mb is not enough.

There are a select few laptops featuring MXM upgradeable video cards (specifying your laptop make and model really would help), but other than that, that's next to impossible.
ASUS and MSI are currently showcasing external graphic card boxes featuring off-the-shelf PCIe graphic cards to use when you're sitting at a desk and having mains power which are connected via an ExpressCard slot, but they are not yet available, might cost a bit (you need the box, the PSU and a decent graphics card, which all won't be cheap), are only usable with mains power AND can NOT be used to display anything on your laptop's screen, thus enforcing the need to connect an external monitor.
Basically, these solutions are some kind of cheapo 3d-graphics docking stations; the idea is quite nice, actually: Buy a small notebook with undemanding graphics for saving battery lifetime and when at home, plug in the card and use your external peripherials and monitor for gaming.

It's an HP Pavilion zd7000 widescreen.

I got it for free from work, so I really can't afford to buy a new one, being a college student and all.

Any advice would be helpful.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405. Upgradeable?

BTW, I have a monitor from my old desktop, but I wouldn't know how to hook it in to the laptop.

(Obviously, I'm not the first poster again)
