look up buffer overflow, you can go from there. however, if you don't understand how an operating system works (being unfamiliar with words like processes, threads, stacks, etc) you're in for a world of confusion. i stress the understand part, there is "uh, sounds right i think i get it" and "i can write a motherfucking book on it in my sleep" types of understanding. you'll want to be at least near the latter.
people may be insulted, but trying to learn when you don't even know the basics is just going to lead to more pain for you and those that listen to you.

I mean I fix computers for a living, it isnt somthing thats over my head. I've already looked into buffer overflow attacks but that isnt really what I am looking for since its getting pretty ineffective (vista seems to be pretty immune).

Windows itself is not necessarily what you should aim for. Try going for a program with network access you know the victim runs that has known security flaws.
