Virus

Alright. So i downloaded a crack for a game from some website I've never seen before. I opened the crack. Soon after, there was an error, and now my desktop icons and start toolbar are hidden. Pressing the Windows key does nothing. However, i'm able to open Task Manager, which i did, and it's the only way i was able to get online to post this.

tl;dr, Virusowned, halp?

OP here,
a process called "wmpnetwk.exe" is preventing me from getting online. I have to end it before i can post. Also, i ran NOD32, and it found something, but didn't give me the option to delete it.

Should i format C:/? I'm pretty desperate to get this fixed.

OP here, if i format C:/, will i have to reinstall XP?

Formatting the hard drive wipes **EVERYTHING**, so yes, you will have to reinstall windows if you take that route.

Otherwise, you have a fun week ahead full of trial and error troubleshooting (if an antivirus/antispyware cleans it, the warez creator is pretty pathetic...).

I don't think i have the install disk for my XP, and i'm lacking the serial. So i can't take that path.

Disregard that I suck cocks.

Alright, i found the two viruses. problem is, i can't delete them. I've tried using Eraser, just clicking delete, and using a spyware program to delete them. It says they're being used by another program.

if you can get explorer running, you can set the virus security permission to deny. you're SOL if you don't know how to do either.

>>12 How can i do that? I have enough control that i can run explorer.

in the properties box for a file there should be a security tab. inside, you can set the security access to the file. set deny everything for the file with the virus. if there is no security tab in the properties dialog box, you need to reinstall windows or get linux.

try regedit, if you found the viruses you can remove their entire directory without getting access denied or in use errors.
