In my flat I have a server as a gateway. I don't mind this much, my flatmate uses it to monitor how much I download so we don't go over our cap.

However a 'friend' of mine has somehow gained root access to the server, and hes the sort of weirdo who sells ebay passwords and locks people out of their steam accounts. My flatmate didn't give him the root PW either, so he must have used some sort of exploit. I talked to my flatmate about it, he said not to worry about it (read: I want most of the bandwidth for myself)

Today I unplugged my computer from the server and ran it from the switch, and I enjoyed sharing files across the network to a another friend. But now my flatmate arrived home and plugged me straight back in :(

My question is this: what do? upgrade the server and change root PW? or tell my flatmate to go fuck himself and use the switch?

I don't want to lose my ebay PW, it has access to my credit card n shit. Also I surf /b/, go figure.

Jesus, just pay for an unlimited cap.  And reformat the server with OpenBSD, it almost certainly now has a rootkit on it.
