google "Debian net-inst cd" and download/burn

you will then have a barebones Debian linux system that you can customize to your liking; nothing extra installed by default (except nano); perfect for a server

OpenBSD is exactly what you are looking for.

Download the 4MB install CD, burn it, install it, enjoy!

What is up with everybody flaming Vista?  I ran one of those 30 "trail" versions for a while and it ran quite well. I epically liked the improved start menu, the only thing M$ ever got right. Great FPS in WoW and FFXI. I need to get back to being a expert programmer so I think installing Fedora 7 + Livna repo is FTW.  As a expert gamer I was really disappointed with the Live integration on vista. Back to fragg'n ppl with Linux-Tan!  For the record Fedora no longer is Fedora Core, just Fedora. The core and extras repositories merged.
