windows vista stability vs XP

I know that vista sucks and that I shouldn't even consider this, but my (windows xp home) computer gets a BSOD about once a day, if not more, and the BSOD error messages are incredibly unhelpful for diagnosing the problem. They occur inconsistently, sometimes when I'm sleeping, and I've had it. I might reinstall XP, but if I'm going to use a sucky OS I might as well us a sucky OS that looks nice.
All I want to know is if windows vista (ultimate edition if that matters) is any more stable than XP (home). I know about vista's driver issues, its lack of support for many devices, its low support for programs, its failure at gaming, and most of its other problems. but I just want to know about how stable it is comparable to other windows versions.
thanks in advance,

Vista is horribly unstable, in the one week I was using it, it crashed at least a dozen times, I wasn't even playing games or anything most of the time.  I called Best Buy and they said it was probably because I was using "less RAM than recommended."  I told them that I had a gig of RAM and for me to have twice the bare minimum and still have the system crash on a regular basis was pretty fucking ridiculous.  I was using the Home Premium, BTW.  Get Windows 2000 if XP is really giving you that much trouble.
