Locate someone IRL with IRC /whois?

Is it possible for someone to find my address if they /whois me on IRC?

(I'm not using a proxy or anything.)

It depends. Whois somebody on the network you on, and if you see his ip, then yes.
else no.

I realize that my IP address is being transmitted practically everywhere, but nobody could pin that to my address unless they went to my ISP, right?  And my ISP wouldn't divulge that information unless it was for legal stuff.  (I'm not concerned about getting caught file sharing; some dude is stalking me and I'm starting to get a little worried.)

Oh, btw, this is a university IP, don't know if that's any different.
