i'm new to desktop linux. i've installed fedora core 6 with the kde desktop environment. all is updated. i have also updated to the latest nvidia drivers i could find (through the livna.org repository).
i know fedora core isn't the best distro in the world but my school is using it in their classes so i wanted to be familiar with it.
i'm pretty much happy with everything except for a couple of things: 1) applications take a while to load up and 2) menus and graphical stuff is a little slow, especially the first time it pops up and 3) I enabled translucency effects but they are fuck slow, to the point of being unusable.
i'm learning kde slowly but was wondering if there is anything i can do to try to make it just a little more snappy.
