what do you guys think of Solaris?

So I just got a free copy of Solaris 10 Operating System in the mail... and I'm thinking, "yeah, and?".  I already run Linux -- I have native Linux applications to compose music, tinker around and learn 3D graphics (Blender), a great paint program for art (GIMP, despite being awesome it could use a better UI -- but it still does what it needs to do), and all the free programming tools in the world for my adventures in C, C++, and LISP.  I don't play many games, except Nethack and old childhood favorites in DOSBox.

So uhm... if I migrate to Solaris, will I lose out on any of this?  Does Solaris have a Linux compatibility layer like FreeBSD?

Where is Solaris better than Linux?  Where is Linux better than Solaris?

Last time I touched Solaris was on a SPARC in 1999 at University.  It was decent, but do I want to make it my primary OS?

Do the wicked, cursed bony hands of the anti-Santa, Richard Stallman, leave nothing sacred untouched?
