I use the Firefox extension Autocopy to implement Unix-like copy/paste, but I'm curious if there's a way to universally implement this.

I don't give a fuck about traditional Unix stuff. Useful > traditional. This "traditional" legacy is the reason why core utilities names and parameters tend to suck so much and be made of hack and shit. Take a look at ps, tar, etc. gb2/decades ago, Unixfags.
