Hay guys, mobo advice?

Name: Anonymous 2007-02-16 17:47

I'm getting a new rig soon, as mine is pretty outdated.
So far it consists of:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66ghz
Whatever 500gb HD
Radeon x1950XTX
DDR2 RAM (2gb) 800mhz
But as you can see, it lacks a mobo.
It needs to be a slot 775, and I know fuck all about these things.
SO any of you got an idea?

Because Opera is very fast, you can run it on outdated hardware.

Buying a Radeon 19xx now is kindof a bad idea seeing how DX10 cards are coming out and I can only imagine affordable ones are around the corner.

As for your hard drive, check out (google) perpendicular recording technology. Its cool stuff.

I heard somewhere the 1950XTX will be DX10 compatible..
Also I've decided on a mobo, GigaByte 965P-DQ6 will probably be the one.
Oh and thanks on the perpendicular recording tip, the wiki article was a good read.

dq6 is very nice, got that too

BUT

buying the 6700 imho is wasted money, just get the 6600 and save 50% of the 6700 price, then overclock (should easily get it to 3 - 3.4 ghz with air cooling)

plus if you DONT overclock ddr2 800 is wasted money too, 667 is enough then (667 even is enough if you oc a 6600 to 3ghz still).
plus 500gb hdds are crap, might want to have a look at either the 400gb samsung hd401lj or some seagate barracudas.

plus getting a 1950xtx atm is stupid, either wait until dx10 card prices have fallen with everything or buy a relatively cheap card and upgrade sooner than you normally would.

plus 1950xtx dx 10 compatible would be news to me.. might want to check that to be 100% sure, but i really doubt it does.

i should be done now, rejoice

That's impossible. DX10 requires massive hardware-level support, and didn't exist when that card came out. If you want DX10, buy an 8800 (not recommended until nVidia gets their shit together) or a cheaper card until R600/better 8800s.

Do not listen to this poster. He is a dumbfuck for recommending overclocking to anyone who can't pick out his parts on his own; buy the best stuff you can afford and be happy with its stock performance.

sadly for you, i did not only talk about overclocking. way to dismiss all my information out of hand because of one sentence you disagree with - dumbfuck.
i even have sometimes asked for parts myself because i was TOO FUKKEN LAZY to read every single one of 8973487 reviews after a year or so of not bothering to keep up with the development. furthermore it's not like i'm forcing him to FUKKEN OVERCLOCK; LOLZ, AMIRITE? if he can't/won't/is too lazy to do it even after maybe reading up about it, who the fuck cares? it's not like it's MY money.

also, CRUISE CONTROL
