DVD Drive Fails

I've been having my "broken" DVDRom drive sit in my computer for a few months now, and I'm just about ready to shoot it with my nightstand gun. It's powered fine, the computer can eject, the drive attempts to read, but it always stops before it can read anything. Is there something I should do before popping this thing out with a screwdriver?

Just buy a new one. You can get a 16x DVD burner for $39.99 on most online retailers, and a regular DVD-ROM is almost half that.
