Dead battery?

i have a 9 month old vaio vgn-sz110 with a VGP-BPS2C (doubt that matters, but just in case someone thinks they can find some specific problem on google i couldn't).

my laptop runs fine on AC power but won't start up from the battery and winxp says i have no battery inserted when i'm running for AC power.

anyway, am i safe to assume that the problem is the battery is totally dead (and not something like lose wries in the laptop [didn't drop it or anything]).

The only way to be certain is to drive over it.

I guess the question i should have asked though is THIS: how often do lion batteries go completely dead?

not that often, and the pc should still report a battery even if it's dead

You probably have a bigger problem than the battery
