64 bit Vista

So here I am realizing 5 months after owning a core 2 duo that its 64 bit.  and while i run gentoo on my laptop and server, i still require windows for my main desktop.  So my question is, will I notice a difference with 64bit apps (mainly video encoding), or should i just not care?

ok, how about a 64bit os in general, worth the upgrade?

if you do a lot of heavy video encoding or other number-intensive tasks, the upgrade to 64bit will make a significant difference.  but if the desktop is for general use, you may want to hold off until there are decent 64bit-compatible drivers available for your hardware (linux support for 64bit is better than windows, at least last i checked).

in a nutshell: if you're not sure you need 64bit, you probably don't.

It's a mixed bag. Unless you have more than a 2 or 4 gigs of RAM (depending on OS), it's not mandatory.

Not OP, but don't 64bit OS have compatibility issues with some programs that won't run?
