XP Powertools Sync Toy

Name: Anonymous 2007-01-23 16:46

I realize most here are gno lovers and the rest have used XP for years but I want to be certain the XP users are aware of this.
Each week on 4chan I see a couple emo chillun saying they lost everything to a crash or HDD failure.
Partition your boot drive and or add a second harddrive. Create folders for your important files and download the Powertools Sync Toy. Makes backups a cinch.

Or, buy a large external and schedule weekly backups like someone who isn't a complete tool.

or burn important data to offline storage (cd/dvd) like the pros do

"or burn important data to offline storage (cd/dvd) like the pros do"

I have a gigabyte LAN connection to a 2nd box and an external MyBook, The SyncToy allows easy backups to either. I also have a DVD burner on one box but DVD's are too small for my data.

Tape is nice until someone comes to you with a tape from 7 years ago that the hardware no longer exists to read it with.

True story: not one of my colleagues in campus IT had the hardware, and this was at a very technical school.

Everyone has a cd/dvdrom though, and I can still read cds from 10 years ago.

Tape can get brittle over time and splicing will corrupt data.

No, listen: I am the IT pro here. If shit gets broken, I rapidly replace the production server with any old PC running Linux and Apache and an index.html like "SHIT BROKE, WAIT". Then I have some coffee, and then, I fix shit, but taking it easy. Faggot users can wait.
